Kansas City, both sides

About Hailsmith

You are about to let someone work on your car. Here is who that is, and what to hold us to.

Who we are

You found dents after a storm, and now someone wants to look at your car. You should know who that is.

Hailsmith is a paintless dent repair company in the Kansas City metro. It is one mobile crew with no storefront. The crew drives to the car, wherever it is parked, on either side of the state line. It covers both Kansas Cities, the one in Kansas and the one in Missouri, and the cities around them. The ten cities on our service areas page sit in Johnson and Wyandotte counties in Kansas. On the Missouri side, they sit in Jackson, Clay, Platte and Cass counties.

Here is the one thing to hold Hailsmith to. Your estimate names the dents that may not come out fully. You hear those limits before any work starts.

Hail is the main work. The rest of the year, the same method takes out door dings, parking lot dents and small creases. You can read about that on dent repair in Kansas City.

What the name means

A smith works metal by hand. A blacksmith shapes iron at the anvil. A tinsmith bends sheet metal into shape. The craft lives in the hands and the eye.

PDR is the same kind of work. A technician reaches behind the panel with a steel rod. The dent gets read in a light board, then pushed back a little at a time. It keeps going until the panel reads flat.

Nothing gets filled. Nothing gets sanded or resprayed. The metal goes back to the shape it had at the factory, and the factory paint stays on it.

That is the job, and the name says it. Hail damage, worked out of the metal by hand. The name also says what Hailsmith is not. It is not a body shop, and it does not repaint panels.

One crew, both states

Kansas City sits on both sides of the state line. Plenty of people live on one side and work on the other.

On April 3, 2011, NOAA's Storm Prediction Center logged hail reports within 10 miles of 19 of the 20 metro cities in our hail record. Those cities sit in Kansas and in Missouri. A crew that works only one side of State Line Road would miss many of them. That is seven cities on the Kansas side, or twelve on the Missouri side.

So the crew moves. Interstate 435 rings the metro. Interstate 35 and Interstate 70 both cross the state line inside it. Your car in Olathe gets the same visit as a car in Independence. That means the same count under the light, the same written estimate and the same list of dents that may not come out.

What changes from side to side is the paperwork, not the work. Hail is a comprehensive claim in Kansas and in Missouri. Your policy sets your deductible, and your carrier decides what it authorizes. If you are unsure how that works on your policy, ask your carrier.

What to hold us to

You can check the method and the record before you call. Read how paintless dent repair works, including what PDR cannot fix. Look up your city on Kansas City hail history. Then judge your estimate for yourself. If it names the dents that may not come out, it is doing its job.

Hailsmith is a Kansas City company and is not connected to any business of a similar name elsewhere.

Start with a free look

You do not have to take any of this on faith. The assessment is free, and you see the dent count before anything is decided. Call for a free assessment and tell us where the car is parked.

Factory Paint, Untouched

PDR works the metal from behind the panel, so the paint that left the factory stays on.

Estimate, Line by Line

You see every line of the estimate before anything is signed.

Mapped Before Touched

Every panel gets counted and recorded dent by dent before a single tool goes near your car.

Told Before, Not After

You see the dent count and the limits of the method before you decide anything, not after the work is done.
