Hail Repair in Bonner Springs, KS

In Bonner Springs, the biggest hail comes before spring is even official. See the NOAA record, the March pattern and what paintless repair can fix.

In Bonner Springs, the biggest hail does not wait for May. Reports logged by NOAA's Storm Prediction Center (SPC) show three reports of baseball size hail within 10 miles of town from 2010 to 2025. All three came in March. The biggest, a 3.5 inch stone, fell on March 13, 2024. If your car spends late winter outside, March deserves the same respect here as the peak of spring.

Big hail for a midsize count

From 2010 to 2025, SPC logged 126 reports of hail at 1 inch or larger in Bonner Springs' circle. They fell on 42 days. Bonner Springs sits outside the 20 city metro record on this site, so set it beside that record instead. Ten of those cities log more reports and ten log fewer.

A report is a single sighting, logged at the biggest size the spotter saw. Plenty of sizes are estimates. A busy storm can leave a dozen reports, while a storm nobody watches leaves none.

The size is where Bonner Springs stands out. Golf ball hail, 1.75 inches and up, accounts for 36 reports on 15 days. Only five of the 20 metro cities log more golf ball reports. Below that line sit the other 90, from 1 inch up to just under golf ball size.

Three reports reached baseball size, which SPC sets at 2.75 inches. Six of the 20 metro cities log more than that. Most log fewer.

Two March days, seven years apart

March 13, 2024, holds the record. Sixteen reports came in near Bonner Springs, more than on any other golf ball day here. The largest was 3.5 inches. Shawnee logged the same count and the same top size that day. Only Kansas City, Kansas, logged more, with 17.

Eight weeks later, on May 8, 2024, eight more reports arrived, topping out at 2 inches. So 2024 alone brought two of the four busiest golf ball days on file.

The other March day came seven years earlier. On March 6, 2017, nine reports came in, topping out at 2.75 inches, right at the line for baseball size. Between them, those two March days hold all three baseball reports.

On May 18, 2017, nine more reports arrived, peaking at 2.5 inches. On May 27, 2021, six came in, topping out at golf ball size. The oldest golf ball day here is April 30, 2010, when four reports topped out at 2 inches.

May leads, March runs second

May still holds the most reports, 41 of the 126. That is about a third of the total. March comes second with 26, ahead of April's 19. Among the 20 metro cities, only Shawnee and Kansas City, Kansas, log more March reports.

September adds 18. Golf ball hail came in four Septembers, 2019, 2021, 2023 and 2025. The latest came on September 16, 2025, when five reports landed, topping out at golf ball size. That is also the latest 1 inch day on file for Bonner Springs.

June brings 10 reports, August 6, July 5 and October 1. The four coldest months, November through February, stay blank.

So the season here runs from March into May, with a second look owed in September. If your car is hit in either stretch, read what to do after hail before you wash it or call anyone.

Bonner Springs on the Kansas River

Bonner Springs sits in western Wyandotte County, Kansas, on the north bank of the Kansas River. Kansas Highway 7 runs through town and crosses the river south toward Shawnee. Interstate 70 passes along the north side.

Edwardsville lies just to the east, about 2.8 miles from Bonner Springs' center point. Basehor lies to the northwest in Leavenworth County, about 5.2 miles out. Both sit well inside the 10 mile circle behind these numbers.

The crew works all three towns at the car. A driveway in Basehor and a lot in Edwardsville get the same visit.

Across the river, Shawnee has its own page. So does Kansas City, Kansas, to the east.

The hard dents, named up front

A 3.5 inch stone can do more than dent a panel. It can crack the paint, stretch the metal or fold a crease into a door. Those dents may not come out fully with paintless repair.

You hear which ones fall in that group before anything starts, and the rest of the car gets a full count beside them. Each limit, and the reason for it, is on what PDR cannot fix. When you want the list for your own car, call for a free assessment.

Hail Repair Questions in Bonner Springs

Because the biggest hail on file came then. SPC logged three baseball size reports near Bonner Springs from 2010 to 2025, and all of them fell on March 6, 2017, or March 13, 2024. March also holds 26 reports, more than April's 19. A car parked outside through late winter is exposed before most people start watching the sky. Check it after any March storm, even a short one.

Both sit inside the circle. Edwardsville's center point is about 2.8 miles from Bonner Springs' center, and Basehor's is about 5.2 miles out. So the reports on this page take in the sky over both towns. Hail can still hit one block and skip the next, so your own panels are the real evidence. The crew covers Basehor and Edwardsville the same way, at the car.

Usually not. How long a dent has sat matters less than the paint and the metal around it. Where a big stone cracked the paint, rust can start, and that panel may need a body shop. If those dents were part of a claim your carrier already paid, ask your carrier before you file anything new on the same panels.
