Hail Repair in Lee's Summit, MO

No city in the metro data has more baseball size hail reports than Lee's Summit. See the record, the three days that set it and what PDR can fix.

For baseball size hail, Lee's Summit tops every other city in our data. NOAA's Storm Prediction Center (SPC) logged seven reports at 2.75 inches or larger within 10 miles of the city from 2010 to 2025. Blue Springs, Grain Valley, Independence and Raytown come next, with five each. Harrisonville, outside the 20, also has five. Big hail here is not one freak day, either. Those seven reports came across three separate days, in 2010, 2011 and 2023. If you drive in Lee's Summit, this page explains what fell, when it fell and what it means for a dented car.

A bigger share of big hail

The Lee's Summit file holds 89 reports of hail at 1 inch or more. They fell on 32 days. Each one is a single observation of hail, logged at the biggest size someone saw and often judged by eye. Many reports can come out of one storm.

Golf ball size, 1.75 inches or more, makes up 32 of those 89 reports. That is more than one in three. For comparison, the figure for Overland Park is about one in four. So when hail falls near Lee's Summit, a larger share of it is big.

Baseball size hail makes up seven of the 89, close to 8 percent. That is the highest share of the 20 metro cities.

The largest stone was 5.5 inches, on September 18, 2010. Stones of 3.0 inches fell on April 3, 2011, and July 17, 2023. Those three days hold all seven baseball reports.

Golf ball days add up to 14 here. That puts Lee's Summit in the upper half of the metro for big hail days, behind the Johnson County cities. Lee's Summit's most recent 1 inch day came on September 16, 2025.

The three days behind the record

The busiest golf ball day was April 3, 2011, with 11 reports topping out at 3.0 inches. That day, hail reached 19 of the 20 metro cities.

On September 18, 2010, nine reports came in, led by the 5.5 inch stone. Nothing larger appears anywhere in the metro file.

The third big day, July 17, 2023, was smaller in count, with just two reports. One of them was a 3.0 inch stone. Raymore and Belton logged 3.0 inch hail that day too. It shows that big hail here is not only a spring event.

Beyond those three, the file has steadier days. On March 27, 2014, seven reports came in, topping out at 2 inches. On March 12, 2024, five more arrived, topping out at golf ball size. In early summer, June 27, 2013, brought five reports of its own, peaking at golf ball size.

March starts the season here

March leads here, with 20 of the 89 reports. April follows with 18 and May with 12. That early tilt sets Lee's Summit apart from much of the metro, where May usually leads. Spring still holds most of it, with March through May accounting for 50 of the 89 reports.

Summer is not quiet. July holds 10, matching September, and June adds nine. August shows five. February even logged four, including a golf ball day on February 27, 2011.

For you, that means hail season here starts as winter ends. A car parked outside in late February is already in the window.

Lee's Summit across two counties

Lee's Summit sits mostly in Jackson County, with a small part in Cass County. US 50, Interstate 470 and Highway 291 all run through the city. Raytown lies to the northwest, Independence to the north and Blue Springs to the northeast.

The crew goes to the car, even when it spends all day at an office park in Lee's Summit. Raytown, to the northwest, has its own page and five baseball size reports from the 2010 storm. Raymore, to the southwest, has a page of its own, and its record holds the same July 2023 stone.

Hear the hard part first

With hail this size, PDR will not take out every dent. You hear exactly which dents those are at the estimate, before you agree to anything. The reasons, one by one, are on what PDR cannot fix. Our post on whether PDR can fix every hail dent covers the details. Call for a free assessment.

Hail Repair Questions in Lee's Summit

It varies by panel and by the angle of the hit. Stones of 2.75 inches and up can leave deep dents, sharp creases and cracked paint. Those are the dents PDR may not remove completely. Smaller dents from the same storm often still come out. The estimate tells you which panels fall where, so you know the split before work begins.

Not always. A big stone raises the odds of cracked paint or stretched metal, but every dent is judged on its own. One panel can take a deep hit and several shallow ones. The shallow dents may come out with PDR while the deep one goes to a body shop. Your estimate shows that split, panel by panel, before anything is decided.

Your policy sets that, not a general rule anyone can quote you. Some carriers want hail reported soon after the storm, and others allow more time. Read your policy or ask your carrier directly. Hail falls under comprehensive coverage, so you are not filing a claim for a crash you caused. Getting the car assessed early means you know the damage before that call.
