Hail Repair in Raytown, MO
Raytown's hail record peaks in April, while March leads next door in Independence and Lee's Summit. See what NOAA logged near Raytown and what paintless repair can fix.
In Raytown, April is the month to watch. NOAA's Storm Prediction Center (SPC) logged 27 April reports of hail at 1 inch or larger within 10 miles of the city from 2010 to 2025. No other month here has more. Next door, Independence and Lee's Summit both peak in March. Kansas City, Missouri, peaks in May. Raytown sits between those calendars, and its spring runs close to level. If your car sits outside in Raytown, all three spring months count.
Three spring months nearly tied
SPC logged 117 reports near Raytown in all, on 34 days. That ranks fourth on the Missouri side, after Gladstone, Kansas City and Parkville. A report is one sighting of hail at one place, logged at the largest size seen. That size is often an estimate, and one storm can produce many reports.
April holds 27 of them. March holds 25 and May 24. Those three months account for 76 reports, about two thirds of the file. Raytown's March count of 25 ties Merriam and Lenexa, behind only Shawnee and Kansas City, Kansas, among the 20.
After May, the count drops. June has 14, while July and September have nine each. February, August and October show three apiece. November through January show none.
So spring in Raytown is not one peak month. It is a three month stretch with little to choose between them.
Less big hail than neighbors
Five reports near Raytown reached baseball size, 2.75 inches or more. All five came on September 18, 2010, when eight reports arrived and the largest measured 5.5 inches. That ties the top stone in our metro data.
Golf ball size, 1.75 inches and up, makes up 26 of the 117 reports. Those came on 10 days. That is a smaller share than in Independence or Lee's Summit. The other 91 reports fall between 1 inch and golf ball size. Raytown logs more reports than Independence, Lee's Summit or Blue Springs, but less of its hail is big.
Where the big days fall
Among Raytown's golf ball days, May 26, 2016, brought the most reports. SPC logged 13, topping out at golf ball size.
March 6, 2017, came next, with 10 reports and stones to 2 inches. On April 3, 2011, nine reports arrived, the largest 2.5 inches. That was one of two April golf ball days. The other was April 17, 2019, with six reports. Between them, those two days hold 15 of the 27 April reports.
March 27, 2014, brought six reports, also topping out at 2 inches. July 19, 2018, brought four, with the same top size. June has a single golf ball day, June 18, 2011, and it logged just one report. Midsummer of 2011 has an entry too. On July 12, 2011, two reports came in, the largest at golf ball size.
Big hail has been scarcer here lately. Since April 2019, Raytown has logged one golf ball day, March 13, 2024, with three reports. Smaller hail kept coming. Raytown logged hail of 1 inch or more on May 19, 2025, and again on September 16, 2025, its most recent date on file.
Raytown between two interstates
Raytown sits in Jackson County, with Kansas City, Missouri, along most of its borders. Interstate 435 runs to the west, and Interstate 470 passes to the southeast. Highway 350 crosses the city. Independence lies to the northeast and Lee's Summit to the southeast. On September 18, 2010, all three logged hail with a top size of 5.5 inches.
The crew meets the car in Raytown, whether it is parked off Highway 350 or at home on a side street. You get the dent count right there.
Lee's Summit, to the southeast, has its own page and the most baseball size reports in the metro. Grandview, to the southwest, is another city where April leads.
Your dent list, before work
Hail below golf ball size often leaves dents that paintless repair can work out. Bigger stones are more likely to crack paint or stretch metal. At the estimate, every dent is counted and sorted. You hear which ones PDR may not fix fully, along with the reason for each. Cracked paint, stretched metal and dents no tool can reach from behind are the usual cases. If your car took hail on more than one of these dates, say so at the estimate. Your carrier decides how older damage is handled. What PDR cannot fix gives the full list.
