Hail Repair in Grandview, MO
Grandview's biggest hail day came on April 3, 2011, and its calendar skips the usual May peak. Here is the NOAA record and what PDR can fix.
May is the busiest hail month across most of the metro, but not in Grandview. Here it sits in a lull between two peaks, one in April and one in June. NOAA's Storm Prediction Center (SPC) logged every report on this page, counting hail within 10 miles of the city from 2010 to 2025. The largest stone in that window came in at 3.0 inches, on April 3, 2011. That same day, hail reached 19 of the 20 cities in our metro data. If your car is in Grandview, your risk months look different from most of the metro. This page shows them, along with what paintless repair can and cannot fix.
No golf ball hail since 2018
Grandview's file holds 65 reports of 1 inch hail or larger. They fell on 33 days. That works out to about two reports per hail day, a thin pattern next to Shawnee or Kansas City, Kansas. Each report is one hail sighting, logged at the largest size the observer saw, and that size is often an estimate. It is a sample of a storm, not the storm itself.
Those 33 hail days are more than Raymore's 26 or Belton's 22, its neighbors to the south. So hail reaches Grandview often. It just tends to arrive with fewer reports per day.
Golf ball size makes up 18 of the 65 reports, on nine days. Those days fell in 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2018, then stopped. Only one report reached baseball size, the 3.0 inch stone from April 3, 2011.
The latest golf ball day on file is July 19, 2018. Since then, the hail logged near Grandview has stayed below golf ball size. Its most recent day of 1 inch hail was May 8, 2024. Grandview missed both of the big 2025 hail days, May 19 and September 16.
That gap is good news. More than seven years without golf ball hail says nothing certain about next spring.
April 3, 2011, set the mark
The busiest golf ball day in the city's file is April 3, 2011, with 10 reports topping out at 3.0 inches.
Next in size came June 26, 2016. Five reports came in, the largest at 2.5 inches. Belton, Overland Park and Leawood logged 2.5 inch hail that same day.
Busier in count was June 27, 2013, with six reports topping out at golf ball size. Raymore and Belton logged six reports each that day too. Two of those three days fell in June.
Two smaller days round out the file. On March 27, 2014, three reports came in, peaking at 2 inches. On July 19, 2018, a single golf ball report came in, the last one near Grandview so far.
Two peaks and a quiet May
April tops Grandview's calendar with 17 of the 65 reports. June is nearly level with 16. May, in between, holds only six. March adds weight early, with 12 reports. The golf ball day of March 6, 2017, reached 19 metro cities, Grandview among them.
Late summer and fall are thin, with 12 reports from July through October combined. February shows two.
For you, June deserves the same attention as April. If your car sits outside, do not relax once May arrives. The metro hail history puts that pattern next to the rest of the metro.
Grandview and its southern neighbors
Grandview sits in Jackson County, on the south edge of Kansas City, Missouri. Interstate 49 runs north and south through the city. Interstate 470 starts at the Grandview Triangle and heads east toward Lee's Summit. Belton lies about four miles south, in Cass County.
Belton and Raymore, south of Grandview, are covered on the Raymore page. Lee's Summit, out along Interstate 470, has its own page as well.
A job site off Interstate 49 works as well as a driveway, since the crew does the assessment wherever the car is parked.
Two groups at the estimate
Every hail dent goes into one of two groups. The first is what PDR can remove. The second is what it may not fully fix, and you see both groups before you sign anything. Every reason a dent can land in that second group is under what PDR cannot fix. If your carrier has already written its own estimate, keep it handy so the two counts can sit side by side. Hail Repair Questions in Grandview
The record does not say why. SPC logged just six May reports near Grandview from 2010 to 2025, against 17 in April and 16 in June. Reports depend on storms and on people reporting them, so a small count can swing on a few missed days. Treat May as a real risk month anyway. Kansas City, Missouri, logged 55 May reports over the same years.
Not often. From July through October, SPC logged 12 reports near Grandview from 2010 to 2025, and only one of them came in September. The latest golf ball day in the file, July 19, 2018, does sit in that window. So does August 24, 2016, with two reports topping out at golf ball size. Most of the risk still runs from March through June, which holds 51 of the 65 reports.
It depends on each dent, and some cars need a mix. PDR pushes the metal back into shape and leaves the factory paint alone. A body shop fills, sands and repaints. Where paint is cracked or metal is stretched, a body shop may suit that panel better. The estimate tells you which panels fall where, so you choose with the facts in front of you.
