Hail Repair in Leawood, KS

In Leawood, June hail runs almost even with May. See the NOAA record, the summer golf ball days and what paintless repair can fix on your car.

Spring gets the blame for hail, but in Leawood summer pulls almost even. June brought 25 reports of 1 inch hail or larger, against 27 in May. NOAA's Storm Prediction Center (SPC) logged them within 10 miles of the city from 2010 to 2025. No city in the metro data has more June reports, and only Overland Park matches the count. Ten of Leawood's 17 golf ball days also fell from June through September. So a car parked outside here needs watching well past the end of May.

June nearly ties May

May still leads, but barely. After it come June with 25, April with 22 and September with 15. March and July hold 10 each, August 7 and October 4.

Split the year in two and the halves almost match. March through May hold 59 reports. June through September hold 57. Where much of the metro eases off after May, Leawood keeps going.

October's four reports tie Overland Park for the most in the 20 city metro record. None of them reached golf ball size, but they show the season does not close on a fixed date.

For your car, the lesson is length. A covered spot matters from March through September here, and the summer half deserves as much care as the spring half.

Ten golf ball days in summer

Of Leawood's 17 golf ball days, two fell in June, three in July, one in August and four in September. No other city among the 20 has a larger share of its golf ball days in summer.

The biggest summer day came on June 26, 2016. Seven reports came in, led by a 2.5 inch stone, still the record size here. That size returned on September 23, 2023, from just two reports.

July 2, 2011, brought four reports, topping out at 2 inches. August 24, 2016, added three at golf ball size. September alone produced four golf ball days, the latest on September 16, 2025.

Two summer days logged a single report each, July 16, 2010, and June 27, 2013. One report still means a golf ball size stone came down within range of the city. July 10, 2021, brought three more.

Spring had its share too. The busiest golf ball day on file is May 19, 2025, with 11 reports. April 13, 2018, and May 8, 2024, brought seven each.

Never at baseball size

Leawood's file holds 120 reports at 1 inch or larger, logged on 40 days. That is the fewest of the seven Johnson County cities in the 20 city metro record.

A report captures one observation, sized by its biggest stone, and that size is frequently a judgment call. Several reports can trace back to the same storm, so the count measures sightings rather than storms.

Golf ball size or larger makes up 28 of the 120 reports. Baseball size, 2.75 inches and up, never appears. The record is 2.5 inches, and it has been hit on two days.

For repair, that ceiling helps. Stones up to 2.5 inches tend to leave dents that PDR can work, as long as the paint holds. Size never settles it alone, though. A sharp dent or a crack in the paint can come from a smaller stone, so every dent gets its own look.

So Leawood logs fewer reports than its neighbors and no giant stones. Yet it logged golf ball hail on 17 days, more than Prairie Village, Merriam or Kansas City, Kansas.

Leawood along State Line Road

Leawood sits in Johnson County, on the Kansas side of State Line Road. Across that road lies Kansas City, Missouri. Overland Park lies to the west and south, and Prairie Village lies to the north. Interstate 435 crosses the south part of the city on its way into Missouri.

Its neighbors keep busy records of their own. Overland Park leads the metro in golf ball days, and Prairie Village logged a 2.75 inch report on March 13, 2024.

Storms cross State Line Road, and so does the crew, which does the repair wherever the car is parked.

Ask which dents stay

If the storm just passed, photograph each panel in daylight before the car gets washed. Then, before any work starts, ask which dents will not come out. You should hear that at the estimate, panel by panel. The limits of PDR are listed in plain words if you want them first. If one panel needs a body shop, PDR versus a body shop explains how the two kinds of repair split a car. Call for a free assessment.

Hail Repair Questions in Leawood

Close to it. From 2010 to 2025, SPC logged 27 May reports near Leawood and 25 in June. May and June each brought two golf ball days. One of the June days, June 26, 2016, produced the 2.5 inch record. So May keeps only a slight edge in the count. If your car sits outside, give both months the same respect.

It does. SPC logged four October reports of 1 inch hail or larger near Leawood from 2010 to 2025. No city in the 20 city metro record logs more, though Overland Park ties it. None of those October reports reached golf ball size. Four reports in 16 years is not much, but it is enough to show the season can run late.

Yes. Leawood sits right on the line, and plenty of cars cross it every day. The crew works in Kansas and Missouri alike, and it does the repair where the car is parked. That can be a Leawood driveway or an office lot across the line, with the owner's okay. Call for a free assessment and say which side the car is on.
