Hail Repair in Liberty, MO

Liberty's record hailstone is not old history. Its size last fell on May 19, 2025. Here is what NOAA logged, and what paintless repair does about it.

Liberty has hit its hail ceiling of 2.5 inches on four separate days, most recently on May 19, 2025. NOAA's Storm Prediction Center (SPC) logged that latest stone within 10 miles of the city, tying the largest size in Liberty's record from 2010 to 2025. That makes Liberty's record the most recent of the 20 cities in our metro data. Most of the metro's biggest stones fell years ago. Liberty's top size came back in 2025. If your car took hail that day, you may still be sorting out what to do about it. This page gives you the full record, the days behind it and the months to watch.

The 2.5 inch ceiling

SPC's file for Liberty shows 112 reports of hail at 1 inch or larger. They fell on 40 days from 2010 to 2025. A report notes hail at one spot, with the largest size seen there, and many of those sizes are estimates. It is not a storm count.

Golf ball size hail makes up 22 of the reports, on nine days. Belton, Grandview and Raymore also logged nine, the fewest of the 20 metro cities. Not one report reached baseball size, 2.75 inches. The ceiling has held at 2.5 inches instead.

That ceiling keeps getting touched. Stones of 2.5 inches fell near Liberty in September 2010, May 2014, September 2019 and May 2025. That is four separate days across 15 years.

The latest 1 inch day is also May 19, 2025. SPC treats its 2025 data as the file for the current year, so it can still be revised. Liberty was not among the 15 metro cities that logged hail on September 16, 2025.

So Liberty's top size keeps coming back. For you, that makes 2.5 inch hail a repeat risk here.

Twelve reports in May and November

Twelve reports came in near Liberty on May 10, 2014, with stones to 2.5 inches. That ties for the most reports on any golf ball day here.

The day it ties with is unusual. On November 2, 2016, Liberty logged 12 reports of 1 inch hail or larger, topping out at 2 inches. Only four of the 20 cities logged any November hail at all. Liberty and Gladstone account for most of it.

Then came May 19, 2025, with 11 reports and a 2.5 inch stone that tied the record. Hail reached 13 metro cities that day.

September has handed Liberty its top size twice. On September 18, 2010, and again on September 27, 2019, stones reached 2.5 inches. Six reports came in on each of those days. Summer adds one more entry, June 30, 2023, when three reports came in, peaking at 2 inches.

Quiet March, empty July

May leads with 37 of the 112 reports, and April follows with 29. June follows at 16, then September at 13.

Then come the oddities. November holds 12, every one from that single day in 2016. March, busy elsewhere in the metro, shows just one report. July shows none at all.

So Liberty's season starts later than most. April through June hold 82 of the 112 reports. Expect April and May, a smaller September and the rare autumn surprise.

Liberty, the Clay County seat

Liberty serves as the Clay County seat. Interstate 35 runs along the west side of town, and Highway 291 and Highway 152 both reach it. Kearney lies to the north, and Gladstone sits about eight miles west. Highway 291 heads south from Liberty toward Independence.

In Liberty, the crew meets the car where it sits instead of asking you to bring it in. Gladstone has its own page, with the most hail reports on the Missouri side. Parkville, farther west across the Northland, has one too. The service areas page shows the rest of the metro.

A claim, without guesswork

Hail is a comprehensive claim, so your carrier treats it as damage you did not cause. Your policy sets the deductible, and your carrier decides what it pays. If your rate is the worry, read how carriers handle hail claims. At the estimate you also hear which dents PDR cannot fully fix, and what PDR cannot fix explains each limit ahead of time. You get that before any work begins, along with a count of the dents that will come out. Call for a free assessment.

Hail Repair Questions in Liberty

It has. On November 2, 2016, SPC logged 12 reports of 1 inch hail or larger near Liberty, the largest at 2 inches. Gladstone logged 11 that day, also topping out at 2 inches. Those are the only November reports in Liberty's file from 2010 to 2025. One day does not make a season, but it does mean a fall storm can dent a car here.

Often, but not every one. Stones that size can leave deep dents and sometimes crack the paint. Round dents with whole paint, on a panel a rod can reach from behind, usually respond well. Cracked paint, stretched metal and dents on a braced seam may not come out fully. You hear which of your dents fall into that group at the estimate, before work starts.

Not necessarily, but the timing rules belong to your carrier. Policies set their own limits on how long you have to report hail. Ask your carrier before you assume anything either way. The dents themselves do not fade with time, and many can still come out with PDR. Cracked paint or stretched metal may not, and you hear that at the estimate.
