Hail Repair in Shawnee, KS
Shawnee has more hail days than any Kansas city in the metro, and May is its heaviest month by far. See the record, then see what PDR can fix.
Count every hail report in our metro data, and Shawnee comes out on top with 180. NOAA's Storm Prediction Center (SPC) logged those reports of 1 inch hail or larger within 10 miles of the city from 2010 to 2025. They fell on 50 separate days, more than any other city on the Kansas side of the metro. Only Parkville, across the Missouri River, edges it with 51. If your car lives in Shawnee, hail is not a rare event. Golf ball hail alone turned up in 12 of the 16 years on file. This page sets out the record, the worst days and the months that matter.
The most reports in the metro
Behind those 180 reports sit 50 hail days. A report is one person's observation of hail, logged at the largest size they saw, and that size may be an estimate. Several can come from a single storm cell, so the number of storms behind them can be far lower.
Golf ball size, 1.75 inches or larger, makes up 45 of those reports. They came on 19 days. Only Lenexa, its neighbor to the south, logged more golf ball reports.
Three reports reached baseball size, 2.75 inches or more. They fell across two days, March 6, 2017, and March 13, 2024. Both of those days landed in March, before most people think about hail at all.
The largest stone, 3.5 inches, fell on March 13, 2024. Kansas City, Kansas, Merriam and Lenexa share that same record size from that same day.
Shawnee last saw 1 inch hail on September 16, 2025. Six reports came in, topping out at golf ball size.
Two March days lead the list
The heaviest day was March 13, 2024. It brought 16 reports near Shawnee, with stones up to 3.5 inches. No golf ball day here produced more reports.
Close behind was March 6, 2017, with 13 reports and a top size of 2.75 inches. That day reached 19 of the 20 metro cities.
On May 8, 2024, 12 more reports came in, topping out at 2 inches. A year later, on May 19, 2025, another 10 came in, the biggest at golf ball size. Of Shawnee's three busiest golf ball days, two landed in March, ahead of the usual season.
Late summer has its own entries. On August 12, 2021, eight reports came in, topping out at golf ball size. On September 20 that same year, five more reports came in, again peaking at golf ball size.
March outranks April here
May dominates. It holds 67 of the 180 reports, the highest May count of all 20 cities. March is next with 32, also the top March count in the metro data. April contributes 25, and September 22.
June shows 16, and July and August hold nine each. October through February show nothing at all.
That gives Shawnee a long front edge to its season. Nearly one in five reports arrives in March. March outranks April here, which happens in only five of the 20 cities. If your car usually sits outside, the covered spot matters from early March, not just from May. September earns a place on the watch list too, as the fourth busiest month here.
Shawnee on the Kansas River
Shawnee sits in Johnson County, with the Kansas River along its north edge. Kansas City, Kansas, lies across the river. Interstate 435 crosses the east side of the city, and Kansas Highway 7 runs along the west. Shawnee Mission Parkway carries traffic east toward Merriam.
Lenexa, to the south, and Merriam, to the east, each have their own page. Their files track Shawnee's closely. Eighteen of Shawnee's 19 golf ball days also appear in Lenexa's record.
If the car spends weekdays at an office along Shawnee Mission Parkway, the crew can meet it there.

Hail Repair Questions in Shawnee
Some of it is how the count works. A report counts for every city whose circle it falls inside, so Shawnee shares reports with Lenexa, Merriam and Kansas City, Kansas. The rest is simply the record. SPC logged hail of 1 inch or larger near Shawnee on 50 days from 2010 to 2025, and no Kansas city in our data has more.
Yes. September holds 22 of Shawnee's 180 reports, making it the fourth busiest month here. Four Septembers brought golf ball hail, most recently September 16, 2025. On September 23, 2023, a report near the city reached 2.5 inches. After September, the file goes quiet until March. If your car sits outside, keep the covered spot in use through the end of September.
Take photos of every panel in daylight. Note the date and where the car was parked when the hail fell. Then get a dent count and ask your carrier how it wants hail reported. Do not let anyone grind or fill a dent before the assessment. At the estimate, you hear which dents PDR can fix and which it cannot.
