Hail Repair in Kearney, MO

Hail near Kearney has never reached baseball size, but it has hit 2.5 inches twice. See the NOAA record, the busy days and what PDR can fix.

In Kearney, the hail record has a ceiling, and it sits at 2.5 inches. NOAA's Storm Prediction Center (SPC) logged 85 reports of hail at 1 inch or larger within 10 miles of Kearney from 2010 to 2025. Not one of them reached baseball size. That is not the same as gentle hail, though. Stones of 2.5 inches came on two separate days, and the second was May 19, 2025. Thirteen reports landed near Kearney that day. If your car was parked outside north of Liberty that spring, its dents may date from that storm.

Golf ball hail, never baseball

Those 85 reports came on 35 days. Each report is a single sighting of hail at one spot, tagged with the largest stone seen there. Plenty of those sizes are estimates. One storm can account for many reports, while hail nobody sees never makes the file.

Golf ball size, 1.75 inches and up, covers 16 of the reports, spread over six days. That works out to under one report in five. Baseball size starts at 2.75 inches, and Kearney's file holds no report that large. Liberty, about eight miles south, has never logged one either. Neither has Gladstone.

Those six golf ball days carry more weight than their number suggests. Together they hold 44 of Kearney's 85 reports. The other 41 are spread thin across 29 days.

The latest 1 inch day on file is July 11, 2025. It brought the only July report here, and it stayed below golf ball size. SPC can still revise its 2025 file, so that entry may shift.

Thirteen reports on one May day

May 19, 2025, is the densest golf ball day in Kearney's file. Thirteen reports came in, topping out at 2.5 inches. No city in the 20 city metro record logged more that day. Merriam and Prairie Village matched the count, though their stones stopped at golf ball size. Liberty logged 11 reports, also topping out at 2.5 inches.

Kearney's first 2.5 inch day came earlier, on September 27, 2019. Eight reports landed near town. Of the 20 metro cities, none logged more than seven that day. Gladstone and Liberty matched the 2.5 inch top size.

May 10, 2014, brought eight reports here as well, with stones to 2 inches. Liberty logged 12 that day. On June 30, 2023, four reports came in near Kearney, again topping out at 2 inches.

The oldest golf ball day on file is April 3, 2011. Five reports arrived, the largest right at golf ball size. Hail reached most of the metro that day.

Spring, then one November day

May leads Kearney's calendar with 32 reports. April follows with 20, and June adds 14. Those three months hold 66 of the 85, more than three in four.

September contributes nine. March, the top month in several eastern suburbs, shows only two here. July and August hold one report apiece. October, December, January and February show none at all.

Then there is November. Six reports came in near Kearney on November 2, 2016, with stones to golf ball size. They make up every November report in the file. Liberty logged 12 that day and Gladstone 11, both topping out at 2 inches. Fall hail is rare here, but it has happened.

So the months to watch in Kearney run from April through June. Keep an eye on September as well, and do not write off a late fall storm.

Kearney along Interstate 35

Kearney sits in Clay County, north of Liberty on Interstate 35. Highway 92 crosses the interstate on the west side of town. Smithville lies to the west, and Excelsior Springs to the southeast. This site does not give either town a page, so their hail counts are not split out here.

The crew comes to the car in Kearney, whether it sits in a driveway or in a lot near the interstate. You do not need to drive a dented car down to the city first.

Liberty, the Clay County seat to the south, has its own page and shares several of these hail days. Gladstone, farther southwest, has one as well.

The list you get first

Hail on your car is a comprehensive claim, not a collision claim. The deductible is set by your policy. Your carrier applies it, then decides what the claim will cover. A 2.5 inch stone can leave deep dents, and some may have cracked the paint. Those go on a separate list at the estimate, each with the reason beside it. What PDR cannot fix explains every case that can land there. If you have not called your carrier yet, what to do after hail puts the first steps in order. Call for a free assessment.

Hail Repair Questions in Kearney

No. Baseball size starts at 2.75 inches, and Kearney's record stops just short of it, at 2.5 inches. A stone that size still leaves deep dents, and it can crack paint. Kearney logged 2.5 inch hail on September 27, 2019, and again on May 19, 2025. A ceiling that held for 16 years can also break next spring. Park under cover when the forecast calls for hail.

By report count, it did. SPC logged 13 reports of 1 inch hail or larger near Kearney that day, with the largest at 2.5 inches. That is more than on any other golf ball day in its file. If your car took dents that day and no claim is open yet, read your policy for any reporting window. Your carrier can tell you what still applies to your car.

Not exactly, and this page does not count them separately. Kearney's figures come from a circle drawn around one point in town. Towns farther out sit near the edge of that circle or past it. Hail is patchy, so one town can take a heavy hit while the next stays dry. The crew still comes to cars in both towns, wherever they are parked.
